OPaf South Installation “Flagged”
OPaf South flag installation, California Center for the Arts, Escondido, CA (2025)
Flagged - This work was presented at the Other Places Art Fair in Escondido California in 2025
Materials: Silk dyed with madder, sequoia, elderberry, oak gall and iron; brass; nylon string
Created in collaboration with Tava Tedesco, the work extends our ongoing exploration of materials and concepts.
Flagged brings together material and informational fragility. Each hand-dyed silk flag bears the maritime symbol of distress alongside text sourced from internet archives, information that has been flagged or removed from federal websites across administrations. The work reconstructs these vanished records on delicate surfaces, drawing a parallel between the vulnerability of the organic dye and the instability of this data. Through forged dyes and revived fragments of lost information, the piece signals both urgency and erasure
